Assalamualaikum W.B.T
Alhamdulillah we have come to the very end of this semester which also means the final few days of us, being IIUM students. Insya Allah, this semester would be the finale for us. Honestly speaking, upon the first few days in IIUM, especially in Nilai Campus, we were not that excited being IIUM students. The only things that crossed our mind was only the strict rules of IIUM, the annoying guards, the white scarf we were forced to wear every Wednesday, what more with wearing socks to the class or else we will be summoned by the guards. Each and everything which appears in our mind were full of negativity, ignorance and hatred. We were young, being given the first freedom of being away from parents blown us away from seeing the positive things IIUM yet to offer.
Al Alim.
As we finished our foundation period and enrolled our degree in the main campus, in Gombak, we were slowly enlightened with the positive vibes of IIUM. To compare with Nilai, Gombak is much more different. We weren't forced to change ourselves, but the environment subtly changes us. From the unique architecture, to the aurah-covered communities, the recitation of Asma ul Husna and prayer every morning, to the countless usrah groups which we are free to join despite of not knowing each other, the rushing of brothers and sisters heading to the mosque upon every prayer time, Allah. What a beautiful sight we own in IIUM. Everything is so simple yet enough to complete ourselves and give us the chance to evaluate ourselves, how lucky for us to be part of the family of IIUM.
Ar Rahim.
During the early days in IIUM, some of us keep questioning what is the purpose for us, Benl students to be made compulsory taking IRK subjects as well as Arabic language up to six levels when we are not going to use them in the future? We weren't intended to be an ustaz nor ustazah, or the preachers who will knock door to door spreading Usrah. We are linguistics and literature students, let us focus on our own subjects. Allahu, we forgot that the role of human to be placed on this earth is to serve Allah and strive for the here after. As much as we wanted to excel in worldly matters, we forgot that the most important thing is not the worldy matters, but what we have collected in this world to save us in the here after. We are so lucky to own the knowledge which will benefit us later in the future and to educate our little families too. IIUM doesn't give us the reason behind its unique syllabus, but we were given the chance discover them on our own, when the right time comes.
Al Muhaymin.
In IIUM, we were given the chance to reflect and ponder upon how far we have come as a student, a daughter to our parents, and most importantly how far have we become as a khalifah of Allah. We have witnessed a lot of changes happen to ourselves and fellow friends. From those who went astray during the early years to those who are now fully covered, those who were fully covered way earlier are now covering more than before, from those who we would not look up to, to someone we adore and went to seek knowledge. Particularly in the matter of covering ourselves and developing inner beauty, we would say that many of us have changed for the better. We are now more cautious in what to wear, words to say and deeds to follow. We are not certain that we will have this chance if we we are not studying here, in IIUM.
Indeed, there is always a hikmah upon every single thing destined by Allah for His servants.
Surely, being an IIUM student is one of them and definitely a bless.
